Let a frown be your umbrella
Bitterness and cynicism seem like a symptom of a problem within the person. If you're bitter and angry and hate the world, it must be your problem. This is the general reaction I get just because I'm quiet and never smile. But here's something I'd like to say to all those people out there who get down on me for being bitter. Maybe the problem is you.
I'm a pretty happy guy generally. I love my friends and family, they make me happy and laugh and feel good. I'm happy when they're around. I appreciate this incredible gift of life. I can marvel at the majestic simple beauty of a leaf, a delicious orange or a nice tit. The world is a beautiful place that fills me with wonder whenever I think about it.
But I'm jaded and people think I'm mean and scary. Its not the world I have a problem with, its people. If people were less annoying I wouldn't mind being around them, but they aren't. I ask a lot of people, and I'm unforgiving, you know why, because why shouldn't I be.
I'm human, I can be annoying, stupid, childish, scared and lonely. We all suffer from our own weird demons. Big deal, I don't expect forgiveness for my mistakes, if everyone in the world hated me but I was happy I'd be fine.
People bother me, they do dumb stuff, make each other miserable, lie, steal and hurt each other's feelings. Come on now, get it together shitheads! I just want to avoid shock and damage and eke out my fun little existence. So what if I'm bitter, its my right. Maybe more people should be bitter, then we'd get our feelings out more often. If something sucks its better to say it sucks than to let it wear you down and make you miserable.
Resistance to crap is the last line of defense. If no one points out how truly shitty something is it will become the norm. Exhibit A, Matchbox 20. If someone had just stood up and started a riot at a Shitbox 20 concert that lead to many deaths, they would be gone now.
If someone does something mediocre, don't pat them on the back, life shouldn't be one giant Golden Globe awards. Don't be afraid to boo people. "You suck, Boooooo!"
Just use your judgment, remember it, its that little voice you're trained to ignore while you watch crummy movies and listen to shitty radio. In the topic of judgment, have you seen Weekend at Bernies 2? When I saw that movie I actually yelled out loud half way through "What the fuck is this?!"
I think that now if I watched it again I might actually like it. Anyway, BOOOOO!
